Despite holding great privilege in US Society, men are expected to be strong, aggressive, bold, stoic, and competitive. Medical education indoctrinates us into a culture which is paternalistic, hierarchical, self-sacrificial, and values emotional suppression.
As a result, many men in medicine suffer in silence and isolation as they face emotionally challenging experiences in a culture which tells them to “man-up” instead of being vulnerable and asking for help.
Join me and a group of courageous male healthcare providers as we explore the real people behind the masks and starched white coats of masculinity in medicine.
- Explore the impact of cultural expectations on you as a trainee and practitioner.
- Learn healthy methods of identifying and expressing your emotions.
- Share coping strategies with other men in medicine.
Workshop will be held virtually using ZOOM and is open to all healthcare professionals who identify as male.
